Anjuna Beach

Situated 18kms from Goa’s largest city, Panaji, Anjuna is a popular beach area adjacent to Chapora Fort.

Anjuna has a reputation for being one of Goa’s most ‘way-out’ beaches. In the sixties holidays in Anjuna were taken mainly by the hippies as it was a favourite destination and indeed, a few of the originals still remain. These days holidays in Anjuna are usually takewn by a younger crowd, however Anjuna is also a favourite destination for more than its fair share of artists, artisans, seers and searchers.

The main beach – where the Brits usually hang out – plays host to Anjuna’s beach parties, the most infamous of which take place every full moon. The Anjuna band plays at the somewhat less frenetic parties and you can listen to the music as palm trees sway in the warm evening air.

South Anjuna is where the area’s long-term house renters tend to gather.

While in Anjuna Beach look out for the magnificent 1920s Albuqueruque mansion flamked by octagonal toowers and an attractive Mangalore tiled roof.
