Calangute Beach
Holidays in Calangute were first taken by the hippies were the first to come to this idyllic, coconut-tree-lined, pristine beach in northern Goa in the 1960s. They paved the way for the many European tourists who subsequently flocked to Calangute. Nowadays many holidays in Calangute are taken by Indian tourists making it by far the most visited beach in Goa, but despite this it still retains a sort of easy-going charm.Calangute has great food, shopping, entertainment and a wide choice of accommodation.
The area is very popular in the evening with bustling nightlife, whilst during the day tourists visit flea markets and the area’s generous contributions of history. However, the 4 mile (7 km) long stretch of sand is by far the biggest draw.
Calangute Beach is flanked on its southern side by the village of Candolim, on its northern side by the hamlet of Baga and to the east by the village of Saligao.
Calangute holidays are renowned for water sports activities like water scooters, para-sailing and banana boats. Also enjoy seafood feasts all along the beach and the local wines, feni and beer.
