Dona Paula Goa Dona Paula Beach Goa Dona Paula view Goa

Dona Paula Beach is situated nine kilometres from Goa’s capital city, Panaji, at the confluence of the Zuari and Mamdovi rivers. Though secluded the beach commands a fine view of the harbour at Mormugao, Goa’s port city.

Its closeness to Panaji means Dona Paula is a popular stopping-off point for sightseeing tours. You can indulge in a complete shopping spree at Dona Paula. From straw hats, lace kerchief to spices, feni and port wine to Indian handicrafts and jewelry

Dona Paula Beach is an ideal place to relax and sunbathe. On the northern banks of the Rover Zuari lies a large escarpment with a bay and two small beaches.

Water scooter facilities are available at the beach while there are also boating facilities for those who wish to venture into the waters. The state governor’s residence, Cabo Raj Bhavan, is situated at the west end of Dona Paula. A small military cemetery on the road to Cabo Raj Bhavan contains the graves of British soldiers who died during a brief occupation from 1812 to 1815.

One kilometre west of the beach-side is the Vainguinim Beach, home to the National Oceanographic Institute. The NOI was set up to study the area’s diverse marine biology and the major attraction of the institute is its Marine Biology Museum and the Taxonomy Reference Centre.

Choro Island along the Mandovi River, about 9-km from Dona Paula beach, contains the Salim Ali bird sanctuary; this site for local and migratory birds is a bird watcher’s paradise.

Reis Magos Church on the Dona Paula beachside is one of the oldest churches in Goa. It is dedicated to the three Magi (the wise men of the East).
