Benaulim Beach
Benaulim Beach (or Benavil Beach as it is sometimes known) is effectively a continuation of Colva Beach and is situated in southern Goa some 41km away from the state capital, Panaji and 70km from the airport at Dabolim.
The hippies came here in the sixties attracted by the white powdery sand and Beanulim’s easy pace of life and holidays in Benaulim are still quiet affairs as it is one of Goa’s more serene beaches, ideal for a more relaxing holiday. Even so the beach can get quite crowded in the evening particularly with local visitors arriving by bus. There are a number of small hotels catering for tourists but there are also a number of houses than can be rented.
Margao, the provincial capital of South Goa, is just 10 kms away from Benaulim, and offers a busier lifestyle with its busy spice markets, silk stalls and good-natured bars and restaurants. For not much more than the price of the taxi fare there, you can enjoy a fabulous, fiery Goan fish curry, washed down with a cool glass of lassi.
Standing on a hill just beyond the village. the Church Of John The Baptist is well worth a visit, particularly for the Feast Of St John when the young men of the village dive into local wells.
