Palolem Beach
The 1.5-kilometre long Palolem Beach is one of Goa’s most beautiful beaches, lying on its southern coastline in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The beach itself takes the form of a sweeping crescent of white sand hemmed in by rocky crags at each end and fringed by a shady rim of coconut palms.
Palolem is famed for its laid-back attitude but it is much less-developed than other parts of Goa. Accommodation tends to be in simple, rickety beach huts or in villagers’ homes though there are a small number of guesthouses. The village itself is set back from the beach in amongst the palms.
Many visitors to Palolem are day-trippers from Colva and Calangute though there an increasing number are travellers drifting down to Palolem from the more commercially-developed beaches in the north of Goa.
Palolem is 37km away from Margao, Goa’s second city and two kilometres west of Chaudi.
The beach featured in the 2004 film, The Bourne Supremacy.
